Hunter is 5!

I cannot believe I have a 5 year old!!!!

We celebrated his birthday today and I took treats to preschool. (He wanted Halloween treats because that is by far his favorite holiday now.)

He ate a little cake and opened a few presents...

Besides this shirt they were mostly books because he'll need some entertainment tomorrow for his REAL present.

His birthday isn't really until Friday but we had to celebrate today because for his birthday we're wisking him off somewhere special. I'll fill everyone in when we get back but here's a hint: It's the happiest place on earth!

Date Night

Saturday night I had a date night with not one, but TWO handsome men. A family in my ward has a daughter who helped animate the new movie "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" so they reserved an entire showing of the movie and invited lots of their friends and ward members. I took the boys since Jason was of course, working, and it was a delightful movie.

This was actually McKay's first movie theater experience and even though he wouldn't wear the 3-D glasses, he LOVED the movie. I sat him in his seat with a bag of popcorn in his lap and he was good for the following hour and a half. Of course it helped that this was a very fun and exciting movie. We highly recommend it!

JASON IS 30!!!!

Jason turns 30 tomorrow!!! I knew I had to do something BIG so on Tuesday I threw him a surprise party. The theme was 1979 disco fever!!! Lots of our friends and family came and it was quite an event.

I put up a disco ball and we had a dance contest. We also got quite a few awesome outfits.

And boy was he surprised. It took him about 5 minutes to figure out that what he THOUGHT he had planned for that night wasn't going to happen and that I was behind it all. I'm a sneaky wife.

1979 was a good year! Happy 30th Birthday Baby! I LOVE YOU!

A Chilly Beach

My Dad and I took the boys to the beach in Carmel a few times. The temperature was vastly different than at the last beach we were at. We still had fun. They raced with grandpa: And tested the chilly water. We spotted a sea otter or two. Threw rocks in the ocean, used drift wood to sword fight, and fell in the water a few times. And of course mom forgot to bring extra clothes so we drove back to grandma's house wrapped only in a towel. (And very, very, wiped out.)

Monterey

As bad as the zoo was for seeing animals up close, the monterey bay aquarium was at it's best the day my Dad and I took the kids.

The sea otters were active and playful, these river otters were wrestling right by the glass, and the eels even came out of their holes. It was one of the best aquarium days we've ever had.

We went on a Monday to beat the crowds, and the only part that was crowded was the brand new sea horse exhibit. I flipped the switch on my camera to the aquarium setting, (I love my camera, have I mentioned that?), and got some awesome pictures. The jellyfish pictures turned out pretty clear and so did this sea dragon:

And last but not least I zoomed in on the lazy seals out in the bay:

Seattle Zoo

Before heading to California we spent the day in Seattle with my parents. After a delicious lunch at an Indian restaurant my Mom and I took the kids to the zoo while my Dad handled some business. It was an OK day. The zoo wasn't fabulous and many of the animals were napping or hiding. The kids still loved it but I didn't get that many pictures.

This gorilla decided to turn around a stick his tongue out at us.

The best part was the kids play area where they got to climb on and crawl through these tunnels...

and pretend to be spiders.
