Oh These Kids!

Ok, so this is one of those posts that's mostly for the grandparents and my sister. (I'm just looking for some Ahhhs and Ooohs here.) My kids are so stinkin' funny, I just have to get some thoughts and pictures on here before I forget them.

First of all, Hunter said a few things today that made me laugh. I was getting on McKays case for pulling books off my bookshelf when Hunter put his hands on his hips and said very condescendingly,
"Mommy, you have to share your books."
I had no retort that didn't sound hypocritical, so I just nodded and apologized!

Then tonight, (in an attempt to keep their minds off their hungry tummies while dinner was cooking,) I was playing primary songs on the piano for them. We came to the happy family song and I started singing it the way I always do: "I love Hunter, he loves me. We love Daddy and McKay yesiree....." Well, Hunter can read so he noticed that the song DID NOT have his name in it. He didn't like being fooled so I started reading the real words with him. When we got to the part about "I love sister..." I remarked dismissively that he didn't have a sister, but that the brother part still worked. So Hunter then said matter of factly:
"We need to buy a sister."
He said it the same way he reminds me to buy Cheerios when we run out. (Hey if my next one's not a girl, I just might do that.)

This is a really random post.

Last night I put the kids to work. They LOVE to vacumn. That's why I got McKay this play vacumn for Christmas. What I didn't realize when I was getting it was that I SHOULD have gotten one that really vacumns!

Ok, if you're still with me, then you'll really enjoy this. It's rare to catch a moment with Hunter singing at the piano because usually McKay is my little musician. The funny part is that they're just as concerned about stealing the car away from each other as they are about the song.

Picture Tags

I got tagged with two picture tags that are very similar. Megan's tag is to pick the 6th folder, 6th picture and post it. It happened to be our Halloween pictures from this year:

Then on Alisa's blog the tag was to pick the 4th folder, 4th picture. This happened to be a file of pictures my Dad sent me from President Eyring's visit to their house a few months ago:

This was a fun and interesting tag, so everyone go do it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGIE

Today is my beautiful sister -in- law Angie's birthday!
When Jasons brother Craig married Angie 3 years ago I really didn't know her that well. I knew she was distantly related to me, (like a 3rd cousin or something), which goes to show that the Gilbert boys have good taste. (Now I just have to find a cousin for Alan!) Over the years and especially since she moved to Washington we have gotten close and am so glad we're sisters!
She's been a great friend and helped us out so much when Jason graduated and had surgery, and I love having another girl to scrap with. She's creative and gives me so many ideas (and glue, when I run out.)

Have a great day Angie! We love you!

We Miss Dad...

A conversation with Hunter after school today:

Hunter: Where'd Daddy go?

Me: He had to go to work early today. (To clean out his patrol car)

Hunter: I miss him.

Me: I do too kiddo, but Daddy has to work.

Hunter: (with pride) Yeah, he's gotta catch all the bad guys and throw them in jail!

Me: (laughing) Yeah, something like that.

Hunter: (getting more animated) Daddy's going to get ALL the bad guys today!

And then he asked for a sticker badge and to play with his police toys.

A Sweet Day

Today has been a kitchen day. Meaning, I've spent most of the day preparing food, cleaning it up, and then preparing MORE food. I thought it would be fun to make Valentines cookies with Hunter and he was VERY excited about it. He helped cut them out and then when they were cool he could hardly wait to put chocolate sprinkles on them. I thought it would be fun spending an hour decorating with him-- little did I know that he would only do ONE cookie, eat it, and decide he was done. So, I did the rest and then we enjoyed them together. Worth it.

During the cookie making process I was also washing, cutting, steaming/roasting, and pureeing veggies for some "Deceptively Delicious" recipes. Can I just say that I LOVE pureed cauliflower? I divided it into 1/2 cup portions and had a little left over, so I put a dab of butter and a sprinkle of salt on it. Better than mashed potatoes! Tonight I am making the lasagna with pureed sweet potato and cauliflower, and then later I'll make the avocado dip for myself after the kids are in bed! It's definitely been a yummy day, (but I'm ready to quit and let my feet and back rest. I need some rugs in my kitchen or something.)

The Childrens Museum

Last week Hunters preschool took a field trip to the Childrens Museum. We had never been but have always wanted to, so this was a great way to try it out. We'll definitely be going back.
Hunter was very tolerant of the fact that I followed him and his friends around the entire time with a camera. Here are just a few of the MANY pictures I took. (The rest can go in his scrapbook.)

Driving a train with his best friend Ronnie.

Learning about gravity, cause, and effect.

Sir Hunter wouldn't smile, but I still might frame this and put it in his room. (His room is decorated with knights and dragons.)

What a fun field trip. Fun, but apparently exhausting!

Tuckered Out

McKay has so much fun at Grandmas house that he gets very worn out. He was even too tired to finish his lunch!
